Mercado Beetle – small in size, big in possibilities

The Beetle is a compact, versatile chair for the very youngest children. It is designed for children who need extra support when seated but who also want to move, play and take part as independently as possible.

Its low seat height and compact frame make the Beetle particularly well suited to use at home, at school or at nursery. With the castor base, the Beetle can be used as a foot-propelled chair: the child moves across the floor with their feet and so gets around the classroom or room on their own.

Working at a table, moving to another spot in the classroom or playing at home – the Beetle combines good seated posture with freedom of movement.

Good posture and room to move

For young children, a chair needs to do more than give support – it also has to suit their size and abilities. That is why the Beetle has a very low seat height and can be adjusted to the individual child.

The seat height adjusts from 17–18 cm, and the chair is available with different sizes of seat, backrest and armrests. Depending on the version, the height is adjusted manually, by gas spring or electrically.

The result is a compact chair that gives support where it is needed, without restricting the child unnecessarily.

Moving around the classroom

On its castor base, the Beetle becomes a compact foot-propelled chair. Because the seat is so low, the child keeps contact with the floor and can move the chair with their feet.

That lets the child change position by themselves, within their abilities, and take an active part in class. When the chair needs to stay put, the central brake holds it steady.

Also as a fixed school or children’s chair

Not every child needs a chair on castors, so the Beetle is also available with plastic adjustable feet or glides. The same compact frame then works as a stable chair at a school desk, a play table or the table at home.

This means the Beetle can be matched to both the setting and the child’s abilities.

Compact and strong

With a frame of just 40 × 44 cm, the Beetle takes up very little space. Despite its compact size, the frame is built to be sturdy and to stand up to everyday use.
